Dorchester Youth Alternative Academy

Dorchester Youth Alternative Academy (DYAA) is an innovative human service organization with a highly focused mission. DYAA is committed solely to educating Children in Need of Services (CHINS), an at-risk population of truant youth ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old.

Referred by Boston Juvenile Court or the Department of Social Services, these children come from environments devoid of resources and are often exposed to poverty, addiction, and abusive behavior.

For many youngsters, we are a “last chance” opportunity to reverse the downward spiral of their lives. DYAA provides the tools and opportunities that can redefine their futures: education, community services and counseling.

Working with a small number of students, DYAA is able to continually adapt the educational program to meet a student’s needs.

Exodus Transitional Community

Exodus Transitional Community is a New York City-based fellowship of formerly incarcerated individuals that helps people coming out of prison build stable lives and fully reintegrate into society.

The organization was founded in 1999 by Julio Medina, who earned a master’s degree in divinity while serving a 12-year sentence at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in New York. Exodus’s goal is to break the cycle of recidivism by helping formerly incarcerated individuals form and implement plans for succeeding outside of prison. Exodus offers coaching and counseling to assist these men and women as they secure employment and develop the attitudes they need to retain their jobs, reconnect with their families, and fully integrate into mainstream society.
